New mix: "Eteenpäin on menty / We have gone to the next level"

A new mix from me is up. Took it pretty close to the deadline, but it's done now. Pretty indie-ish selection, which I wanted to emphasize since we are playing in Dynamo downstairs which was THE PLACE where I heard lots of these tunes for the first time. And yeah, that's me and Ripatti on the cover of the mix, LOL

Wanting to belong

Have you ever noticed, the indie kids always want to belong? I'm not saying it's a bad thing - we all need warm relationships and some acknowledgment for our being, but it's certainly well mapped territory of human condition in that particular music genre. Here's a prime example, as is a big part of Smiths' catalogue. (BTW, Diskjokke remix of the track is a starter)

But for me, now that I've joined the dark side of music called disco, where post-irony rules over all, I proudly proclaim my needs to belong to a certain Gary's Gang.



I don't know who Gary is, but if he pumped out disco hits like this, and had a dance-ready gang as his wingmen, he's a winner in my books. Call me Gary, let's wear matching jackets and do stuff at the disco.

A little sample connection; GC's Do it at the disco's sax break was transformed by mr. Oizo to this. Ah, how the French love to recycle disco...

This one was unknown for me for a long time. I always kinda thought Feist had a disco-ish element to her, but it came as a surprise she actually covered Bee Gees for this little number:

Finnish ye-ye

I totally forgot that we also had a ye-ye'ish type of girl. This was our entry in Eurovision song contest, and just goes to show that ye-ye pop was sometimes actually quite critical and emansipatory. Sure thing, thumbs up for that.

Tomorrow: Arthur Russell Wild Combination @ Bar Kuka

Yeah, sorry for the low update period, I'm superbusy with work/studies. But here's something all my Turku cats NEED to know.

We're hosting a Arthur Russell themed evening at Bar Kuka. The main event will be the screening of Wild Combination, a documentary of Arthur Russell at 9.00. After and before that, we'll play NY disco, weird avantgarde stuff and some folksy songs as well to commemorate different sides of Arthur. Come join, free as usual.

It's the remix # 5

I've been liking piano-fuelled house tunes lately. John Talabot's remix of Spanish indie poppers Delorean works for me. An uplifting feeling, sandpaper percussion sounds(?) and a sound beat to build it all upon.
