RIP Kreba ??? -mix

I drank some beer yesterday and made a lo-brow, rustic "party" mix. Loads of Armand van Helden related tracks, out-of-style beats and weird combos. The only original song - not remixed or mashed up or looped - is from Vengaboys. So there you go. The cover's mighty funny, though.

DjPeffis-RIPKreba-mix by Peflettofunk (Disko WTF)

Tracklist goes like this:

BIISILISTA:

JS666 - Star Wars -mäshäri

Happy international R. Kelly Day

Dunno, why it is today, but Facebook says so.

Man, can't even begin to describe all the things R. Kelly means to me. I actually got to review his latest album - which has been sort of a lifelong dream -, shame it was a bit of lame effort. We all know how bat shit amazing some of his songs are, and we all know about the "age ain't nuttin but a number" suspicions and accusations.

Here's three good ways to celebrate the day:

1. Listen to these two mixtapes of his songs by Vic Crezée: The first one. The second. Both of them are made just the way mixtapes should be made: good selection, great mixing, funny sound clips in between.

2. Read Mountain Goats' John Darnielle's 100 reasons why Ignition remix is "so damned great". Possibly while listening to Ignition remix on repeat.

3. Cop the old Real Talk bmore edit here. How dope can a very simple edit be, kudos to F*skars.

Bday coming up

27th of this month is the time, place is Dynamo upstairs. It will be a blast.

It will start our new scheme for this year: bringing guest dj's to spice things up. The first one is none other than Ais-T of Music People fame. He has been one of our top supporters along the first years and a huge influence on my musical taste.

We are trying to do something else for that night too: a communal mixtape of sorts. That's why we ask YOU to records something - acapellas, shoutouts, drunken babble - and send it to us via dropbox on the right. We'll use all the stuff you kind people send us and make a mixtape with all that.

Everyone participating in that will get a physical copy of the record and little something else, too...

Oh yeah, I can't get this one out of my head:

Have a good week,

Rap freebies

I've been listening to a little more of rap lately. I'm still pretty much busted in terms of personal economy, but luckily I've found some dope mixtapes and freebies artists wanted to share, and also dug into the rap medias around here in Finland.

The first rap freebie comes from Raekwon, who is part of the legendary, unfuckwithable Wu-tang Clan. (I think most of you know this). The lesser known fact is that the Wu-collective is still qualitywise one of the dopest groups around. People seem to forget how talented and hungry MC's Ghost, Method Man, Raekwon etc. can be in their, what, like 40s.

A few quick notes: I can't get my head around why OB4CL II didn't get a decent distribution. I know a friend who died to get a promo copy, but couldn't. And now it's getting rave reviews, but still people have to go and get it from Amazon or something. How fucking lost are the records labels to not get a proper marketing for such a hyped up album?

Other note: I can't get my head around either why Ghostface didn't feature on this Wu track. I love his art and everything, but I mean, this shit means a lot for the older Wu-heads. And this one video was pretty sad to see, even if I pretty much agree with him.

Anyways, Raekwon did a mixtape prior to the OB4CLII release. Get the Cuban Revolution mixtape here.

Second one is pretty fresh. It's from a younger Finnish rap dude called OlliPA, known best for this little UG hit. He put his debut album available for download. Cop it here.

And yeah here's a little list for those Finnish fans who wanna get inside the rapgame. There aren't that many outlets out here, but the ones that going around, but they are of pretty high quality: Mestarisoundi, Syvällä Pelissä, Basso, Redrum-187. (I hope I remembered all, hit me up with a comment if I missed something)
