Ruisrock afterparty tomorrow - 5 downloadable rockers

Woof, woof! 5 good quality rockers handpicked from the vast internet?

Sure thing. Here's a five freely distributed songs I've been feeling lately. 320 or more, so they're good to go if you have your dj licenses set up.

1. Spottie Ottie (Dj Apt One edit)
An instrumental edit of a classic rap track.

2. Lasertom & Blast Crew - Heavens in the Backseat
A robo-polished cover version of Hot Chocolate. Kinda reminds me of DFA and Tiga.

3. Starks & Nacey - The Flip
"I'm known for that flip the kokaina". Don't know how to categorize this one... nu-house, club music, moonbahton? Whatever, I dig the texture and vocal sample.

4. JS666 - Close to the Edge
I generally don't like mashups that much, but this one's a winner. It's The Message with U2 and Specials, I guess.

*** Ruisrock SPECIAL ***
5. Robyn - Hang With Me (Drop Out Orchestra Rework)
Drop Out Orchestra is a winning new remix/production team from Sweden and here they remix Robyn who is one of the few Ruisrock stars. I think Drop Out Orchestra play real bass on their records and on their gigs.

Just to remind, we'll join Kimito Diskotek - who has a new mix up - tomorrow on the Ruisrock official afterparty. Free fun, starting from 10 at Klubi.

See you tomorrow,
- Peffis

Thursday: Gift of Music - the sequel at Kolo

This week's Thursday it's Kolo time again. Last one was pretty cool, and I was very pleasantly surprised we got a little dance floor going for about an hour on a weekday. This time we'll do it even better.

We are gonna stick to the same game plan this time too: lesser known gems from music's history and easy going stuff for the first couple of hours and later we try if we can get a dance on with better known, danceable selections. If anyone has requests, hit us at comments.

Here's top 5's from us again:

Dj Peffis Top 5:

Alicia Myers - I want to thank you
Risque - Starlight
Fleet Foxes - Grown ocean
Doves - Kingdom of rust (Prins Thomas diskomiks)
Serge Gainsbourg - Ballade de Melody Nelson

Ripatti Top 5:

Raphael Saadiq: Radio
Busy Signals: Plastic Girl
Bibio: Excuses
Nicolas Jaar: Space Is Only Noise If You Can See
Justine & the Victorian Punks: Beautiful Dreamer

Hopefully see you Thursday. Have a nice week,
- Peffis

5 downloadable freebies + Mixcloud opening

Ah, the sweet smell of FREE music. Now that's something we can all bond upon. Anyways, don't want to get into talking about what freely downloadable music does to listening experience or the value of music.

Here are my five picks from the vast internets. They are all 320 kbps or over, so you can blast them in your gigs (if you're a dj). Wouldn't play anything less, I get really annoyed if I hear distortion on files played. And yeah, they all went to distribution because their authors wanted.

Wizardz - Boogie Slyde (BlackLodge Synth Refix)
Nice and funky 80's jam with dope rhythms and bass. Lovingly refixed by BlackLodge who you should follow on Soundcloud for more goodness. BPM: 115.

Rodion + GoldenBug: Washing Machine (Bottin's Spin Cycle Edit)
Our favorite Venice dj is back with a rolling edit. I didn't like this at first, but then I got into the LOOP and DISCOvered it. Would guess this works well on a dance floor. Also BPM: 115

Maxwell - Bad Habits (Dave Nada Club mix)
This one's an older one. I guess bmore sounds are a bit year 2009, but this one still retains it's coolness. It's basically a slow jam, really stylistically spiced up for the dance floor. BPM: 128.

Shine 2009 - New Rules (Remix)
Not shamed to admit that I think Shine 2009 are the best new band around. They released this new remix a while back, it takes the sun-and-wind-like original to more danceable tempo and feel. BPM: 119.

Tahiti 80 - Darlin' (John Talabot's Oscuro Baile Remix)
John Talabot is one hell of a promising dj/producer from Barcelona. I really dig his way of doing these heavy, rhythmic songs that really aren't that fast. Check this interview with him for more insights. I have no idea about the original, but this remix is a winner. BPM: 114.

And yeah, in other news: I've put all the interviews I did with my Diskonservatorio show in Mixcloud. I also uploaded my old solo mix there since Soundcloud ran out of time.

Cheers,
- Peffis

Jampacked

Sorry for the slow week or two. Too much to do, too little time or energy... And football on the telly every day. (Here's a definite football song, as gay as it comes)

The good news is that we're doing our best to bring some very highly appreciated dj's to do a gig at Turku, so we're not lazying our asses off. It's a lot of effort but hopefully we can make them happen. So cross your fingers.

Tonight (Thursday 17th) you can get catch a lot of our selections by checking my Diskonservatorio radio show from 20 to 22 at local Zoom radio and later from 22 to late night at the cozy Bar Kuka. That makes at least 5 hours of specially picked music from us to you.

Here's a recent Top 5 new discoveries from me:

James Chance And The Contortions - Incorrigible (Liv Spencer And Dj Spun Remix)
Kenny Loggins - This is it (Mad Mats rework)
LCD Soundsystem - Home
Mim Suleiman - Nyuli
Chris Isaak - Mr Chicago did a bad bad dub

I'll probably play out a lot of easy going summery disco with AOR vibes tonight. Not so much house or leftfield disco, I think I'll save those for dance floors.

And by the way, my friend surprised me with a great live mix. You can listen to Dj Ki Ki's "Feel what you want" here. They have a new Gborhood project up, go and have a look.

All the best for y'all.

UPDATES

Updates, updates, updates...

I decided to do a little bit of renovating around this blog: changed the color scheme to a more neutral and balanced, added that photo, changed the infobox on the right. Feel free to comment on how the graphic design works: I'm aiming to make it as easy to read as possible. I'm thinking about should we also include upcoming gigs or recent Top-5's here somewhere or not. Comments are very welcomed.

I also updated our Spofify playlist. Apparently you can subscribe to it in the new version of Spotify, and we have near 170 subscribers already. Quite amazing, I hadn't even updated it in a while.

And here's a recent Top 5 from me:

Kc flight - planet e (tony johns 88 forever edit)
G.A.N.G. - KKK
Roland Clark - I Get Deep (Leo zero re-edit)
Abe Duque feat. Blake Baxter - What happened?
Cantoma - Gambara [Lexx Remix]

Have a good week,
- P-Funk

5 times LOVE

I was making a list for a Finnish dj forum about 5 songs that have been bumping on my soundsystems for a while. The funny thing was that I didn't notice how many of my picks actually included word LOVE in them (4 out of 5).

So I thought I'd share my selections with you. I decided to change the one song that didn't have LOVE in it and another one I already had posted here, tho.

Here are the 5 songs. The links lead to a video/stream of the song, so you can check them out by clickin'.

Chic - I want you love (Todd Terje edit)
Azari & III - Reckless with Your Love
Sammy Gordon & The Hip Huggers - Making Love
Kris di Angelis & Ben Dobie - Making Love (Move Closer)
Ten City - That's The Way Love Is (Underground Mix)

Now I see that I could have easily made a Top 10, If I had wanted.

Listwise speaking, I hope everyone has discovered our Spotify-playlist. Me and Ripatti try to update it as often as possible, so you can keep up with the music we discover all_the_time. Of course, there's not that much older, rare, only-vinyl stuff there, so I'll try to bump those songs via this blog.
